Iosif Bleikhman
Russian anarcho-communist (1868–1921)
Iosif Bleikhman was a prominent figure in the Russian anarchist movement, born in 1868. As a Belarusian Jewish anarchist communist revolutionary, he played a key role in the events surrounding the Russian Revolution in 1917. Bleikhman led the Petrograd Federation of Anarchist-Communists, organizing a series of demonstrations against the Russian Provisional Government. These protests ultimately culminated in the July Days, a pivotal moment in the revolution.
Following the October Revolution, Bleikhman's activism continued, but his focus shifted to opposing the new Bolshevik government. His agitation against the Bolsheviks led to multiple arrests and sentences of penal labor. Unfortunately, during one of these periods of imprisonment, Bleikhman contracted tuberculosis. His health declined, and he succumbed to the disease shortly before the Kronstadt rebellion of 1921, at the age of 53. Bleikhman's life was marked by his unwavering commitment to anarchist communist ideals, and his legacy remains an important part of Russian revolutionary history.
