Linda Lipnack Kuehl

American arts journalist (1940–1978)

Linda Lipnack Kuehl was a prominent American arts journalist, active in New York City during her career. With a strong foundation in literature, she pursued various projects, including a notable endeavor to write a biography of the renowned jazz singer Billie Holiday. As part of her research, Kuehl conducted extensive interviews with individuals close to Holiday, including friends, fellow performers, and key figures who played significant roles in her life.

Although Kuehl's biography of Billie Holiday remained incomplete at the time of her death in 1978, her meticulous research and interviews have had a lasting impact on subsequent works about the jazz legend. Several authors have drawn upon Kuehl's material in their own biographies of Holiday, and her recorded interviews were also featured in the 2019 film Billie, serving as a narrative thread throughout the documentary. Prior to her journalism career, Kuehl worked as a high school teacher and freelanced as a writer, laying the groundwork for her future endeavors in the arts.
