Mordechai of Lechovitch
18th-century Hasidic rabbi
Mordechai of Lechovitch was a prominent 18th-century Hasidic rabbi who played a significant role in the development of Hasidism. As a disciple of Rabbi Shlomo of Karlin, he was deeply influenced by his teachings and went on to establish his own dynasty, known as the Lechovitch dynasty. This dynasty would later give rise to several notable Hasidic courts, including Kobrin, Slonim, Koidanov, and Novominsk.
In addition to his leadership within the Hasidic community, Mordechai of Lechovitch also held a position of importance in the broader Jewish community. He served as the president of the Holy Land Fund for Jews in Israel, demonstrating his commitment to supporting the Jewish population in the region.
