Abbe Lyons

Abbe Lyons is a pioneering American female hazzan, marking a significant milestone in the Jewish Renewal movement. Alongside Susan Wehle and Michal Rubin, she was among the first three American women to be ordained as cantors, a distinction she achieved on January 10, 2010. This ordination paved the way for women to take on leadership roles in Jewish music and worship.

Currently, Abbe Lyons serves at Congregation Tikkun v'Or in Ithaca, New York, where she fulfills the role of cantor. In addition to her cantorial duties, she plays a key part in guiding young congregants through significant life events, leading bar and bat mitzvah ceremonies. Her work at Congregation Tikkun v'Or reflects her commitment to Jewish music, education, and community leadership.
