Fritz Hirschfeld

Fritz Hirschfeld was a German jurist of Jewish descent, who pursued a career in law. He served as a judge in Potsdam, demonstrating his expertise and dedication to the field. However, his life took a dramatic turn due to the circumstances of his time. Hirschfeld was forced to flee his home and seek refuge in the Netherlands. Despite his efforts to escape persecution, he was eventually interned in the Westerbork transit camp.
Hirschfeld's experiences during this period were marked by immense hardship and displacement. He was subsequently transferred to the Theresienstadt concentration camp, and ultimately, he was murdered in the Auschwitz extermination camp. Prior to these events, Hirschfeld had undergone a conversion, which led him to explore additional pursuits. He worked as a translator and author, showcasing his versatility and talent beyond his legal expertise. Through his work in law, translation, and writing, Hirschfeld left a lasting legacy, despite the tragic circumstances that cut his life short.
