Gunther Plaut

German-born Canadian rabbi (1912–2012)

Gunther Plaut was a prominent figure in the field of Judaism, serving as a Reform rabbi in Canada. Born in Germany in 1912, he went on to become a respected leader in his community, eventually settling in Canada. As the rabbi of Holy Blossom Temple in Toronto, Plaut spent several decades guiding his congregation and providing spiritual leadership. In 1978, he took on the role of senior scholar at the temple, a position that allowed him to continue sharing his expertise and insights with others. Plaut was also a prolific author, penning a notable Torah commentary that showcased his deep understanding of Jewish scripture and tradition. He passed away in 2012, leaving behind a legacy as a devoted rabbi, scholar, and author.
