Judah Kalaẓ

Judah Kalaẓ was a prominent Algerian writer and scholar, specializing in the field of Judaism. He is believed to have resided in Tlemçen, Algeria, during the early 16th century. As a descendant of a Spanish family that settled in Algeria following their expulsion from Spain, Kalaẓ's heritage played a significant role in shaping his intellectual pursuits. His family's legacy continued through his grandson, also named Judah, who went on to become a respected rabbi in Tlemçen towards the end of the 16th century.

Kalaẓ's most notable contribution to Jewish literature is his seminal work, Sefer ha-Musar, a comprehensive treatise on ethics. Throughout this work, he frequently references the Zohar and other influential cabalistic texts, demonstrating his deep reverence for these sacred writings.
