Renee Rabinowitz

Israeli-American psychologist and lawyer (1934–2020)

Renee Rabinowitz was a distinguished Israeli-American psychologist and lawyer, born in 1934 to an Orthodox Jewish family in Antwerp, Belgium. Following the outbreak of World War II, her family fled to the United States in 1941, and she spent her formative years in New York City. Her academic pursuits led her to earn a doctorate in educational psychology from the University of Chicago, as well as a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Notre Dame.

Rabinowitz's professional career was marked by her work as a psychology instructor at Indiana University and later as in-house legal counsel at Colorado College. Her influence extended beyond her academic and professional endeavors, as she was recognized as one of the most influential women in the world, featured on the BBC 100 Women list in 2016. In a notable instance of advocacy, Rabinowitz successfully sued El Al in 2017, after being forced to change her seat on a flight due to a fellow passenger's religious objections, highlighting her commitment to promoting equality and challenging discriminatory practices. She passed away in 2020, leaving behind a legacy of academic and professional achievements.
